Listen to New Lo-Fi House Tracks. It's Really Cool.

You know the drill. I listen to cool electronic music all month, I put my favorite tracks in a playlist, and then I pick a few of those songs, I embed them here and I write snarky comments about them. It’s not rocket science, but that’s my thing. We all have our thing, this is mine. Then you listen to these tracks and you’re like : “Wow. This is really cool. This just changed my life. I’m going to quit my job as a high paid executive and dedicate the rest of my days to raves.” You’re welcome.

DJ Planet Express - Galleria 4Ever

It isn’t known which galleria inspired the Toronto DJ for this spacey house track. I guess it’s one of those works of art where you have to figure it out for yourself, like a Tarkovsky film or something. My own favorite galleria, you ask? Probably the Glendale Galleria. I’m a “go big or go home” kinda guy.

Sony Synth - Usually

Sony Synth doesn’t disappoint with his new EP Caramel, his fourth release of the 2020. I discovered the Ukrainian producer earlier this year with his Youfelll collab Chilladelphia. Usually expands on his very special blend of deep house and lo-fi aesthetic. The whole album is really cool.

Subjoi - High Street

For a few years now, Subjoi has been releasing consistently awesome tracks. His new EP In Absentia explores retro garage and soulful house with his usual bonkers sensibility, High Street being perhaps the most immediately contagious title of the lot. High Street? More like Easy Street… is what this guy will be on if he… if he continues releasing good music like that [looks nervously around the room] I said “Easy Street”… Right, folks?

Jakub Fidos, AKA Subjoi, has meticulously honed his music over the last four years, crafting sounds that elevate the club-centered, four-on-the-floor schema to more ethereal heights. On any given track, his production traverses Garage-inspired breaks, sub-shattering Chicago basslines and glittering vocal hits. But regardless of motif, what truly defines Subjoi’s music is its impact--even the gentlest of tracks come knocking heartily on both mind and body. His latest offering, In Absentia, is a timely reminder that house music is above all else supposed to move us. “High Street,” “Without You” and “I Say” offer up three unique yet complementary vignettes of contemplative house without sacrificing any of the dancefloor-ready pulse. Label favorite Loure has also graciously provided a sublime early hours remix of “High Street” as the perfect nightcap to the album. Romain Pollacsek - Ça pulse

In the world of lo-fi house, having whacky track names is half the game. With titles like Denis sous taz (i.e. Denis on Molly), Romain Pollacsek has that covered. His track also has a dose of that left-field self-awareness that makes lo-fi so special. Understated and full of textures, the three tracks on his EP Amour Épais are just what the doctor ordered.

3 titres lofihouse record dans ma cuisine, cool nice peace :)

Love Club - Das Rote Haar

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that this is some lost masterpiece from the early 80s. I can just picture this soundtracking a Fassbinder film. Little is known of the Love Club, but I’m excited to hear more from this German (?) project.

Youandewan - Cola Beach

Youandewan is a well-established DJ and producer from Berlin. Listening to his new double single Cola Beach / Dolphin Splash Keyboard, you can hear why. His perfectly balanced tracks are quirky enough to entertain the headphone listener, but they’re meant to be heard blasting through the P.A. of some outdoor festival. I’d dance in my bedroom if I wasn’t 100% dead inside.
