INTERVIEW : Preditah

For the better part of the past decade, Preditah has cemented his place in beatmaking history, producing countless hits, from Mist & Fredo’s So High to Jorja Smith’s ubiquitous On My Mind. While some people associate Preditah’s name with grime, his true fans appreciate his reverence for cutting-edge dance music. With Glucose, Preditah wants to take the listener on a journey of sonic discovery, going back to his roots, while also exploring new ideas and concepts, infusing them with his unique sound palette. We had a chat with Preditah to learn more about the making of his new release Glucose, out now via Palm Recs.

I love your new release! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind you single Glucose and the B-side 1950?

I’m glad you like my new release! Glucose was inspired by reminiscing on my visits to Ibiza over the years.

The pads that run throughout the track capture the warmness of the island and the bass counters the melody to keep the vibes going.

This release represents a mature, experienced Preditah going in a new direction.

How did you produce these 2 tracks?

I started 1950 with the bass and worked around it to complete the groove and I started Glucose with the pads and worked around them until I felt I had something.

Have you been inspired by any production tools in particular for this release?

Not really, to be honest. I always start my ideas in my head first and just use whatever tools are ready to get writing.

Glucose comes after a brief hiatus. Do you feel like your music has evolved since your last releases?

Most definitely. My previous releases were just examples of what I can do, whereas the releases I have coming up are a concrete statement to my sound.

Glucose features a remix by D Double E. Can you tell us a little bit about this collaboration? How did it come about?

The guys over at Palm suggested him and I was up for it, as I’ve always been cool with him. After the record was finished we spoke on the phone and laughed at the fact it’s taken us all these years to get a record done.

I love collaborating with people I’m a fan of rather than chasing the hottest name at the time. I’m excited to put the remix out

You have remixed some high-profile artists such as Disclosure and Skepta. How do you approach a remix?

I always work around the vocals and start from scratch. I never use their original production stems and I tend to not listen to the original. I remix as if I’m producing the record from scratch rather than remix the original production

I’m curious to know what you’ve been listening to lately. Can you share some current inspirations and/or new discoveries?

Atm, I’m listening to the new Migos album, and I’m also listening to H.E.R.’s new album. I’ll sit with those for the next few months and take them in.

I haven’t discovered anything away from those records that have caught my ears. I am always listening out for new talented producers/singers though
.

What’s coming up for Preditah?

I have a few more records to be released this year so listen out for those! Just can’t hold back the garage sound ;)

Preditah’s A-side Glucose is out now. The B-side 1950 will be released on July 30th. Both tracks are coming out via Palm Recs.
