Moving to Toronto

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d like living in Toronto. As a Montrealer, I guess I had been exposed to the informal rivalry between the 2 cities. Most of my friends told me the Ontario metropolis was kinda boring.

I believe the actual word they used was “beige”, but that’s neither here nor there...

I packed my bags and moved from L.A. to TO. It wasn’t exactly by choice, since my visa was about to expire, but it was still a welcome change. I loved Los Angeles, but it never felt like home while I was there. Maybe I was intimidated, but I had a bit of difficulty sinking my teeth into that city.

I didn’t feel like that at all in Toronto, though. I quickly found like-minded party people and artist-types. Also, the fact that things are affordable (at least in comparison) and often at a walking distance made it that much better. It meant that I could experience more and take more chances.

My work would’ve allowed me to move pretty much anywhere in the world, but I wanted to be somewhere where there was an English-speaking artistic community. And the thought of being in Canada again sounded weirdly good.

Toronto has great parties and a great crowd. I’ve been enjoying the clandestine nature of my neighborhood, Parkdale, as well as the city’s beautiful architecture and nature spots.

I’ll keep you guys posted on my favorite venues, cafes, and all that. Might also take a few pictures in the upcoming months.
