ITALIANS DO IT BETTER: After Dark at the Ace Hotel

Italians Do It Better is the label that championed the revival of Italo Disco in the past decades. They’re known for their glassy electro pop and their completely insane artistic direction, but they also know how to throw a party like it’s nobody’s business. Case and point: The After Dark event that took place at the Ace Hotel this week.

Offering an incredible view on DTLA, the room was full of beautiful people who came to dance to the sounds of DJ Jesse Taylor of In Mirrors. He did not disappoint, playing catchy and kitschy classics all night. Guests received free custom-made posters as well as vinyls. Also, the walls were covered in prints which seemed up for grabs, unless they were simply stolen by the guests as they left. One of these print may or may not be displayed above my dresser as we speak.

As my girlfriend and I were taking the bus back home (yes, we’re that kind of people), the police gridlocked the streets in a surreal twist reminiscent of some The Fast and the Furious sequel - or, perhaps more appropriately, Drive.
