New Electronic Music Releases Worth Checking Out

The sun is out and sweater weather is slowly turning into patio weather. Most festivals have been canceled, and we’re guessing there won’t be a lot of dance parties this summer, which doesn’t mean awesome electronic music shouldn’t have a place in our hearts. More than ever, it’s time to crank up the tunes and let gorgeous rhythms bring us a bit of escapism. Here are a few releases that should match the sun’s warmth in the upcoming weeks.

DJ BORING - Like Water

After a 2-year hiatus, the godfather of lo-fi house is back with an EP that promises to be nothing short of stellar. Like Water is the album’s lead single, it marks somewhat of a departure for the london-based producer and DJ also known as Tristan Hallis. So long, smoggy grooves. Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out, moody drums. The new single is bright and colorful, yet DJ BORING’s music hasn’t lost an ounce of its idiosyncratic charm.

Karl Can Be Cool - You Can’t Walk Your Way Through Life

Friend of the blog (and interviewee extraordinaire) Karl Can Be Cool continues his exploration of acid-tinged lo-fi house with this 3-song EP. This one has all the things you want : Bleeps? Got ‘em. Bloops? Yup. Cleverly understated tones and textures? You bet. KCBC also has a dope techno playlist which you can check out on Spotify.

Swoose - Introspective EP

London-based electronic artiste Swoose is back with a sun-drenched album full of transcendental bangers. This one’s fresher than a pineapple-tequila slushy enjoyed under the sun at a Sunday afternoon outdoor rave… Goddamn, I miss going out.

Gorgon City & Yousef - Free Myself ft. EVABEE

While many are using the lockdown as an excuse to be lazy and get nothing done, some of us have been pushing ourselves to the max. Take me for example, I’ve totally redefined the amount of 90 Day Fiancé reruns a human can watch in a day. Not far behind, superstar duo Gorgon City has teamed up with Yousef and EVABEE to create one of the catchiest tracks of the year so far, which is also impressive.

Monotronique - MAAAAAAAD

Monotronique’s experimental masterpiece explores the codes of dance music in a way that makes you think: “Is he fucking with me? Or is this genius?” Upon careful examination, I confirm it’s genius. Each track is articulated around a simple digital synth motif which spirals towards the skies, seemingly ad infinitum. I love a record that defines itself by what it is as much as what it isn’t. I sure could see myself spacing out to a couple of these tracks in the club.

salute - Matasa

This over-caffeinated beat sits comfortably between micro house and future bass. Its euphoric pace is almost too fast to be danced to, which is probably a good thing since dance parties are so pre-COVID. Matasa secures salute’s status as one of the most exciting electronic producers active today.

Auscultation - III

Some people have a song they want played at their funeral. III is the album I want playing inside my coffin 24/7 for eternity. Cut out the middleman, you know? This atmospheric house record from Portland-based producer Auscultation - also known as Golden Donna - is pure vapory magic. It’s the perfect after-party record, and there’s no better after-party than eternal sleep.

DC Promo Tracks #563: "Turn Down These Voices" by Auscultation is part of the release "III" on 100% Silk @100percentsilk Buy Now: https://auscultation.bandcamp.com/album/iii Subscribe to our weekly email: http://dreamchimney.com/subscribe
