Q&A: Men I Trust
As a Montreal expat, I’m always happy to see local bands drop by the city I’m currently living in, namely L.A. That was the case for Men I Trust, last week. They were opening for Wild Nothing at The Regent, as part of a small West Coast tour that included a slot at Camp Flog Gnaw.
I had the chance to interview them for the Canadian blog FÀV. We spoke about inspiration, music gear and californian fans. Here is a couple of my favorite answers:
What’s your favorite piece of gear right now?
We just bought a little Vox travelling amp. That allows us to play an electric guitar through our headphones during our long days on the road.Emma constantly plays on it, and she’s wondering why she waited so long before getting one.
How are Americans fans, as opposed to your Québécois fans?
Americans are really cool! They’re not that different from our Québec fans. They might be a little louder, a little more demonstrative. When we go to the south of the US, we feel like we’re living in a perpetual summer party.
Would you consider moving to L.A. at some point?
We’ve been to Los Angeles a couple times, and it’s always very exciting to come back here. It’s an important city for our band, a great place to showcase our music. We have many friends in L.A. that we’re excited to reconnect with. There’s great light here, and the nature is always near. It would certainly be great to stay in California for a couple months, but right now we’re spending so much time on the road that we’re missing Québec more than anything else, and we appreciate being at home.
Is there a song that really hypes you up right now?
Lately, we’ve been listening to the song Vie D’Marde, by Lindi K. When we start getting bored on the road, we put it on our Dodge Grand Caravan’s sound system. It gives us hope.
